Editing Blog

Today in class we started the editing process. Jontae, Edgardo and I had to do it without Fulvio because he is out of town. Instead of using pinnacle studios to edit we are using imovie. We are doing this because we had trouble using pinnacle
studios and this way we dont have to use the slow computers. Both Jontae and Edgardo have imovie which is a big help. Jontae is using his moms Mac book and Edgardo is using his iPad. We believe this will be a lot easier and work smoother if we use apple products. Edgardo's iPad gives us the opportunity to use touchscreen, which will be very helpful. We all have a little more experience with imovie rather than pinnacle studios so it shouldnt take as long.

We dumped all of our footage on to imovie on Edgardo's iPad. It was very smooth and did not take long. We were very relieved it didn't take long like last time when we used pinnacle studios. Once the footage was uploaded, we picked the best clips from each scene and put it together. We watched over it once and were very impressed. We then inserted the song God's Plan. This was the only thing we struggled on, we had a difficult time figuring out how to add the song. Once we finally got it we watched the video once again with the music playing, it was great. Once the music and film was on the computer in order it was a cake walk. Alls that was left to do was add transitions and then we were done.

We were all very productive during the editing process, especially when adding transitions. Edgardo was very good at thinking of the transition that would fit best. Jontae and I placed them in the appropriate spot. It was a team effort, we were very successful. We used many transitions like jump cuts, dissolve, fade in, and fade out. After we added the transitions we were done. We watched the whole video as the final product and it turned out better then we expected. I sent it to Fulvio to insure he approved and he did. We were all very relieved to be done and were proud of what we created. We learned a lot throughout the creation of this video and we are getting better and better at filming and editing. I'm excited to be able to rest this weekend without the worry of filming or editing.

Filming Blog (FOR REAL)

Over our Thanksgiving break not only did we eat turkey, but we also filmed our music video. From Tuesday after school November 26th to Friday morning November 29th we all had family in town. Due to this we were unable to film any of these days. I took charge and texted in the group chat that we needed to get it done. Saturday November 30th was a no go for Jontae and Edgardo because they had basketball. On Sunday December 1st Fulvio went to the Dolphins game so we could not film that day either. Luckily all of our families left earlier on friday so we were able to film later in the day. We all agreed on a time and met at the Galleria mall. Fulvio ran a little late so we didn't film at the exact time we wanted. Our communication was much better which led to us actually filming.

The actual filming process was pretty smooth. We took multiple shots for each scene to insure we had good footage. The scene that we had the most trouble with was the scooter scene it took us a while to find a scooter. Once we finally found some it took us a while to use them because we had to download the app for it which took long. Once we finally had them moving we took a lot of shots of us riding because it was blurry at some points. We also struggled finding homeless people willing to be in our video. Its not as easy as it sounded but we did find one. Overall it was a success we got our footage and we think our video will turn out really good.

Tomorrow in class we will begin editing. We have some experience from our music video so it should be pretty smooth. Although the computers are pretty slow if we start early we can hopefully finish all of it and be done. Throughout the course of planning and filming we learned a valuable lesson which was communication is key. Due to our great communication over break we were able to film and knock it out. I'm very excited to see how this video turns out. The hard part is done (filming) it's now just editing. Although we came across a couple problems while filming we found our way around them and were able to get our footage. Overall we had a very successful filming process.

Filming Blog (not)

This weekend we were supposed to film our music video. Unfortunately we did not film. We planned on filming on sunday 11/24 but we did not get a camera. We were supposed to get a camera on Thursday 11/21 but we did not. I went to our teachers class on Friday 11/22 but there was a sub. The plan was to film this weekend but we did not collect the equipment needed to film. We could have planned and communicated better, we did not text this weekend at all. We will try again over our Thanksgiving break.

Even if we did get the correct equipment to film we probably wouldn't have. All of us were pretty busy this weekend. Edgardo and Jontae had basketball practice and games all weekend, I had track practice, and Fulvio had family plans. It wouldn't have worked out even if we checked out a camera on Thursday. It was not the worst thing not filming this weekend, we were all busy and got to enjoy our weekend. We have a lot of time over break when we could possibly film so we have to take advantage of that. In order to insure we get this filming done we must all come together and communicate.

Although we did not get to film our music video this weekend we were taught a lesson. Communication is a key part in being successful throughout the process of filming the music video. We could have communicated and gotten the camera on Thursday rather than waiting and getting shut out on Friday. We could have also communicated and told each other we were busy this weekend. It is good we figured the key to success is communication because it's going to play a pivotal role during Thanksgiving break. We must communicate and come together over Thanksgiving break to insure we get this music video done. Edgardo and Jontae sent there basketball schedule in a group chat and I sent my track schedule. Tomorrow we plan on picking a new date to film. The plan is to come back from break with our music video filmed and ready to be dumped.

Music Video Planning

1. For our location we will be filming at the Galleria Mall and the beach. We chose to film here because it is a nice area and everyone is able to meet up at this location. In case this doesnt work we are going to meet up at Hagen park on Wilton drive because it is also very close and easy to get to.

2. For our Health and Saftey we will make sure to buckle up when driving, be aware of surroundings, and make good decisions. We will also make sure no one has food allergies to insure saftey. By doing this we will be safe and have no problems during the filming process.

3. The props we will be using in this video is a car in which we will dance in front of  and lean on. We will also carry money and show it off as a prop. The final prop is food, in the music video Drake is seen giving homeless people food. We are using the car and money to show that we are on the up rise and doing good.

4. The costumes that we will wear when we are filming is a gold chain and hats. We are dressing this way because in the Gods plan music video they dress like that.

5.  The schedule that we will be following is next class 11/20 we will story board for the video. On 11/24 we will film our music video at the given location. On 11/26 we will dump our footage on to the computer and begin the editing process. It is then Thanksgiving break we get back on 12/2 and the next class period is 12/3 we will then finish editing and be done that day. The due date is 12/9 so we will have two class periods to fix anything we did not like and will perfect it and turn it in.

Intro Music Video

Today we were introduced to our next task, we are starting our music video. I have completed the commercial and are moving right into the music video. The music video is more of a challenge rather than the commercial we shot in school. The music video will be filmed outside of school on our own time. I am working with the same kids as last time Fulvio, Edgardo, and Jontae. The video must one minute and fifteen seconds which is much longer than our commercial. I am hoping to learn more skills and apply them to this video. I am very excited to see how this music video will turn out.

When choosing the song it was a difficult choice. Two of our teammates were not here and were not answering the phone. Jontae preferred songs from the rap genre and I preferred songs from the pop genre. Jontae and I looked through lists of the top songs and had different opinions. We finally found a song we both enjoyed we agreed on "Gods plan" by Drake. We both like Drake and Gods plan is a mixture of pop and rap. It falls under the genre of pop-rap which was perfect. It has a very catchy beat and the lyrics are well written. I texted the other group members and they finally answered and agreed with our choice. Gods Plan is the perfect song for our group.

We started doing more research on the genre and learned a lot. The costumes that are usually seen in the pop-rap genre are comfortable stylish outfits with jewelry. The lighting usually seen in this genre is bright and uplifting. The acting in this genre is cool, not too much like pop but not too much like rap in the middle. The makeup in the genre is nothing insane, it looks natural. The props in this genre varies on what song but cars are usually used as a prop. The setting that is commonly used by the pop-rap genre is usually around a city area or in a house in a neighborhood not like the suburbs or an abandoned place. The genre has a similar sound it's a good beat with not too much rap but not too much pop. The editing in these videos arent too complex and are pretty basic.

Final Commercial Blog

Today in class we were able to access pinnacle studios which allowed us to begin editing. I initially gathered all of the footage which I previously moved into my google drive. I created a folder called Gatorade  commercial on the new laptop which had pinnacle studios and moved all of the footage into it. This allowed me to import the clips into pinnacle studios. Once the footage was imported into pinnacle studios I looked through all of the clips we had from our two days of filming. Then I chose which ones I thought were the best takes and I began putting them together to make our commercial. I put all of the clips we needed in the full commercial. This began with a wide shot of somebody running on the track and then him drinking gatorade. Then I transitioned into the two-shot of people dribbling a basketball and then them drinking gatorade. Finally there is a close of of somebody slamming a gatorade bottle.

Then I shortened each clips to only include what we wanted in our commercial. I did this by cutting one clip into different clips and deleting the parts we did not want to use. At first I had trouble doing this but I then learned to master it. I went through the list of different transitions and chose the ones which my group and I decided were the best. These transitions included a wipe, a basketball transition, a fold over, and fade in and out. For example, we used a wipe to transition into the two-shot of people drinking gatorade. When going from the track to people playing basketball I used a fade. I also discovered how to add sound affects I put a bomb noise to make it sound extreme when I slammed the Gatorade bottle.

After watching over our commercial many times we critiqued a little. Perfecting the transitions and making sure the sound and sound effects were clear. After this was completed I added a title to our commercial. I put this in the beginning to show our commercial was about Gatorade. After looking over it one more time we decided the editing process was completed. Finally I exported the footage and put it into our Gatorade commercial file. I then emailed it to our teacher and the rest of the group.

Editing Blog

Today during class we completed filming for our commercial. First I cometed the sheet signing out the material. I then gathered all the materials we needed to film. This included the tripod, camera, and SD card. In order to film we needed specific materials (basketball, Gatorade bottle). I found Coach Martin he then opened the gym Edgardo got the Gatorade bottle and basketball that we needed as part of our film. The first scene we filmed today was a two-shot of Jontae and Edgardo dribbling a basketball. I set up the tripod and camera so that we could begin filming. Then I started and stopped the camera while the two of them dribbled. We did about three tales of this scene.

We then filmed the scene of them drinking Gatorade. I filmed them doing this scene multiple times in case we couldn’t hear them saying their lines. Then we refilled the final scene that we took last class of the close up of a Gatorade bottle. Then we went back to class so we could dump our footage. I returned all of the materials we used to film. I then got the SD card reader so we could dump the footage from our SD card onto the computer. We moved all our footage into the same folder as our footage from last class.

Then we had to move our footage into either a flash drive or our google drive. Since nobody in our group had a flash drive we decided to use google drive. I moved all our footage from our two days of filming into google drive. Then I shared it with the rest of the group in case I was not here on a day that we need to access the footage. Unfortunately we could not complete our editing today. This was due to the fact that the computer took a long.

Filming Blog

Today in class we got straight to working. We filmed most of our Gatorade commercial. I first waited in line for our Camera, Tripod, and SD card. Once we got all of the equipment, Fulvio filled out a form checking out the gear. We then walked to the track and set up the camera and picked a good spot to film.

Then we filmed, I ran on the track as they recorded. Fulvio was moving the camera as I ran. We took multiple shots until we perfected it. After filming the the tracking shot we did a medium shot of me drinking the Gatorade and talking about how its good for me. The last shot we took today was a close up on the Gatorade bottle. We were going to do more footage but we had to return to class and dump our footage.

After finishing filming we came back to the class. Jontae returned all of our equipment. We then got the card reader and inserted the SD card into the card reader we plugged the card reader into the computer. The computers were pretty slow making it difficult to complete this task. I then found the card reader and got our clips and put it into a folder called Gatorade commercial. We then reviewed over our footage making sure we perfected everything.

Editing Lesson Blog

Today in class our teacher taught us the editing process. The first step is signing on to the computer. After that is finished you will then click the Pinnacle Studios icon. The Pinnacle Studios icon is where you edit your film or footage. You must use the same computer every class period and every member in the group must know the log in just in case a classmate is absent. After you are logged in, you will put the SD card in SD code reader and put into computer. When SD card comes up on computer it will have to go into a folder titled DCIM to access our footage. If this doesnt work then you go to private> AVCHD-next folder-system and all the folders from that should be there. Once you find your videos highlight them and put them into your folder. Then you're going to dump your photos which means getting footage off of your camera and onto your computer.

Continuing on with the edit process, you would import footage from your computer to pinnacle studios. You should not click on word desktop, click on "t". Make sure you import all your footage for editing. Next you would go to "Edit". The raw footage, which is untouched footage, should be edited. Leave track 1 open for titles, track 2 is for footage, and track 3 is sound. To be able to split your footage, right click and remove audio. Make the title and then after drag it to track 1. When you're completely done with your project you have to export the footage and make a mpeg.4 and make sure you're on full size, best quality.

We also learned and saw what camera we are going to use. It's a small handheld camera and it's great for recording and taking pictures. You'd have to sign it out every time you want to get one and it is a process

Research, Conventions, and Codes

Today, our group decided on the product Gatorade for our commercial. Me, Edgardo, Fulvio, and Jontae all play a sport and consume Gatorade to refuel.
Many famous athletes consume Gatorade in order to restore the electrolytes that have been lost. Athletes from all around the world drink Gatorade. Electrolytes are a substance that produces an electrically conducting solution when dissolved in a polar solvent, such as water. When the human body is low on electrolytes some affects can be, irregular heartbeat, weakness, bone disorders, twitching, change in blood pressure, confusion, seizures, and numbness. It is very important to insure you have a good amount of electrolytes in your body so you don't feel the affects shown above. That's why a drink like Gatorade is very important and should be advertised as much as it is.

In Gatorade commercials with Michael Jordan the brand claimed that people should "Be like Mike Drink Gatorade." In addition to Jordan, athletes like JJ Watt and Serena Williams can be seen in different Gatorade commercials. The common theme in all these commercials is that these athletes are telling viewers they can be like them by drinking Gatorade. This makes viewers like us want to purchase the drink and hope to be successful like these big name athletes.

These commercials often take place in a gym, outside, somewhere the athlete does his sport best. Common music in these commercials are intense, workout music to get you hype. These commercials include athletes from high school all the way to the pros. These commercials are very inspiring and get the message to the audience. The ending to these commercials all end the same, the athlete drinking the Gatorade.
